Fast. Fun. Inclusive.
Floorball is a fast-paced indoor team sport played with lightweight sticks and a hollow plastic ball. It’s quick, dynamic, and easy to learn - no ice, no heavy gear, just movement, teamwork, and skill. Often described as a mix of hockey, basketball, and football, floorball combines speed, tactics, and creativity in one exciting game.

What is Floorball?

A hockey stick with a curved blade and a black grip, placed diagonally across the frame against a striped background.

Floorball is a sport for everyone - girls and boys, women and men alike. Success doesn’t depend on size or strength but on teamwork, quick thinking, and skill. The ball always moves faster than the player, making strategy just as important as speed.

Floorball explained…

Some of the rules:

  1. Each team has five field players and one goalkeeper on the court.

  2. A match consists of three periods of 20 minutes each.

  3. You can play the ball with your stick below knee height, but you may lift your stick higher as long as it’s not dangerous and you don’t touch the ball above knee level.

  4. Controlled body contact is allowed - shoulder to shoulder or incidental contact - but pushing, charging, or checking into the boards is forbidden.

  5. You can use your feet to stop or pass the ball, but you cannot score using your foot.

  6. The goalkeeper plays without a stick, using hands, feet, and body to block or control the ball within the goal area.

  7. Face-offs occur at center court to start the game, after each goal, and at the start of every period.

  8. Free hits are awarded for fouls or rule violations (similar to free kicks in football).

  9. Penalties can be:

    • 2 minutes for minor fouls (e.g. stick obstruction, lifting, holding)

    • 2+2 minutes for serious or reckless infractions

    • Match penalty (red card) for violent or unsportsmanlike behavior

  10. A team plays shorthanded during penalties, and the penalized player returns when the opposing team scores or the time expires.

  11. High sticking, playing the ball by hand, or entering the goalkeeper’s area are common fouls.
